Residential L.E.A.P. Program
Residential Life Enrichment & Acclimation Program - Free (w/ Approved Application)
Service Description
The Residential L.E.A.P. (Life Enrichment & Acclimation Program) for shelter/rescue dogs is a 3 to 4 week residential, home-based learning program designed specifically for shelter and rescue dogs preparing for transition into permanent homes. Dogs enrolled in LEAP come in as fosters from the rescue/shelters that have them then live in a structured home environment where they receive daily enrichment, thoughtful exposure, and guided skill-building tailored to their individual needs. The focus is not on quick fixes or performance-based obedience, but on building emotional stability, functional life skills, and confidence in real-world settings. Through intentional acclimation to household routines, novel environments, and everyday experiences, LEAP helps dogs develop the resilience and adaptability needed to thrive outside of a kennel setting. Each program is customized based on the dog’s history, temperament, and adoption goals. LEAP is designed to support long-term success by preparing dogs for sustainable integration into home life. LEAP is UpSwing's way of giving back and there is never a charge to the rescues or shelters that have us foster for this program. There are limited spaces available for this. To be accepted, an application will need to be submitted and approved.

LEAP Program Policy: Enrollment in the LEAP (Life Enrichment and Acclimation Program) is reserved for shelter and rescue dogs approved by UpSwing Canine Behavioral Services. All placements must include full behavioral disclosure and veterinary records prior to intake. Dogs must be current on Rabies and DAPP vaccinations and free of contagious illness at the time of entry. Because LEAP is a residential, home-based program, dogs must be deemed safe for placement in a structured household environment. Dogs with a known history of severe aggression toward humans or other dogs may not be eligible for this program. Program length, goals, and daily structure are determined based on the individual dog’s needs and the goals of the partnering rescue or shelter. Progress updates will be provided at agreed-upon intervals. LEAP focuses on life skills, enrichment, acclimation, and behavioral support. It is not a guarantee of adoptability, temperament change, or specific outcomes. Emergency veterinary care, if needed during the program, will be coordinated with the partnering organization and is the responsibility of the rescue or shelter unless otherwise agreed in writing. UpSwing reserves the right to discontinue participation if a dog presents safety concerns that were not disclosed prior to intake.
